Better Than A Hallelujah

In Luke 15:10 we read, "there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." As Christians, this rolls off our tongues with ease. Pair this verse with others. In 1 Timothy 2:3-4 we read, “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” And Jeremiah 31:3 where it says, "The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you." I think it's clear that God loves human beings, and so it makes sense that He has asked us to love each other as well, especially by giving each other the gospel. When Jesus was in the busy time of His ministry, He often got push back from Pharisees. (highly religious leaders) I believe that angst was partially because they wanted Jesus to praise how good there were. Instead He often criticized them. Were they missing something? You might be wondering how this relates to this song. As I listen to this song, I believe we should have two thoughts. One, yes, people lost in sin, returning to God is huge. And two, those people in the song, who have a God shaped hole? We should want to be a part of them hearing and believing. Yes, but bigger than a hallelujah? I see this as a challenge. If we are open to it, this moment can help us to see that it is not about us. It is about God. About His love. About our love. Listen and see if you agree...
Verse for Consideration:
Luke 15:10 "there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
Lyrics:
God loves a lullaby
In a mother's tears in the dead of night
Better than a Hallelujah sometimes
God loves the drunkard's cry
The soldier's plea not to let him die
Better than a Hallelujah sometimes
We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful, the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah
The woman holding on for life
The dying man giving up the fight
Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes
The tears of shame for what's been done
The silence when the words won't come
Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes
We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful, the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah
Better than a church bell ringing
Better than a choir singing out, singing out
We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful, the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah
We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful, the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah
(Better than a Hallelujah sometimes)
Better than a Hallelujah
(Better than a Hallelujah sometimes)
