Every one of us has felt small. Inadequate. Many times others seem so much better than us, and it squashes our self worth. Then we come and stand (or lie flat on our face) in front of the King of Heaven. If we are honest about the speck that we are, we know that while those feelings of being small in front of other human beings may not matter much, but this time, in front of God, it is real! We are small and inadequate in God's presence! But, then God looks down, knowing our thoughts and worries, and He reminds us with a song like this, that even though we are small and broken, He loves us and is not ashamed of us. This changes everything! Instead of getting what we deserve, being disowned, left hungry and alone in the desert... Through Jesus, He calls us one of His children, and gives us amazing gifts! Our mind begins to fill up, as we think of these truths, and our new life now and in Heaven for eternity. Then and only then, can we learn to put away the things that used to plague us. We learn that this new life comes with peace, love, design and purpose, and as our mind becomes overfull with the emotions and knowledge of this great God, the only sane reaction is, "...here i am Lord, I am all yours!" Now. If you are understanding any of what i just wrote, then you can see this song in its proper light. The words and music are amazing, so thank you Matthew West for this masterpiece of a song!
Verses for Consideration:
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Revelation 17:14 ESV
They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”
Lyrics:
If grace is a kingdom I've stopped at the gate
Thinking I don't deserve to pass through after all of the mistakes I've made
But I heard a whisper As Heaven bent down Said,
“Child, don't you know that the first will be last and the last get a crown?”
Now I'm just a beggar in the presence of a King
I wish I could bring You so much more
But if it's true You use broken things Then here I am Lord, I am all Yours
The pages of history they tell me it's true
That it's never the perfect; it's always the ones with the scars that You use
It's the rebels and the prodigals; it's the humble and the weak
All the misfit heroes You chose, Tell me there's hope for sinners like me
Grace is a kingdom
With gates open wide
There's seat at the table
just waiting for you
So, come on inside
